Your run around coil system will be made up of two or more multi-row, finned tube coils connected to each other by a pumped pipework circuit. The pipework is charged with water which acts as a heat exchange fluid, picking up heat from the exhaust air coil and giving up heat to the supply air coil before returning. Heat from the exhaust air stream is transferred to the supply air stream via these pipework coils and circulating fluid. The specific heat output capacity depends on the temperature difference between these two air streams. This makes the run around coil ideal for both heat recovery in the winter, and coolth recovery in the summer.
The three-way mixing plenum combines two air streams: fresh air and recirculated air. You’ll have an extremely fine level of control over this mix with a system of dampers to suit the needs of your building’s occupants. The exhaust and fresh air dampers can be set anywhere from 0% to 100% open, and the mixing damper will be driven from 100% to 0% open to match, ensuring the constant availability of supply and extract air. A three-way mix system will also save you money in the long run as it operates with smaller boilers and pumps, requires less pipework, and has a shorter installation time.

The right level of efficiency for your RAC3MX unit will depend on the conditions at your site and written guidelines such as the Eco Design Commission Regulation (EU) No 1253/2014. Operating data such as energy prices, useful life, running times, temperatures, maintenance costs, and interest rates. When you take into account (EU) No 1253/2014, profitability, and environmental protection, the heat recovery efficiency should be no less than 68%. This can reach around 73% under the right circumstances.
This is a system best suited for buildings in which the occupancy rate can vary greatly throughout the day or experience seasonal occupancy. Additionally, when the outside air conditions are correct – usually during mid-season weather – the ambient temperature may be suitable for free cooling. In these conditions the mixing damper will close, and the system will use full fresh air for optimum energy efficiency. When fresh air is not required such as during periods of non-occupancy, the mixing damper can be automatically set to full recirculation.

It is possible for your air handling unit to come equipped with our intelligent energy controls. They give you a fine control over your system, helping you monitor air quality, recoverable energy, and CO2 levels while still maintaining your site’s fresh air requirements. You will also find that ambient temperatures will sometimes be enough to free-cool your system’s air. When fresh air is not required, the dampers can be automatically set to re-circulate air. With proper controls you can automate these processes to achieve optimum energy efficiency.
